Blood of the Stars

Things are really heating up on the composition front as we roll into February. I have my work cut out for me with the second season of Dagger Kiss. There is something quite a bit different about the second season compared to the first; this season will be presented as a film rather than a series. The full title being Dagger Kiss: Blood of the Stars, which refers to an item that possesses (like many things in the DK universe) magical powers.

The score thus far consists largely of character themes. Here, you can hear the new theme composed for Katia. In the previous season, I made the decision to compose a piece for each thematic element in the series: Magic, Love, and Evil. These familiar themes will also carry over, but will be completely re-arranged for use in Blood of the Stars.

The music presented here involves the main character, Arden, who has managed to finally find her way back to her long lost love after a trying journey across time and space. The music is reflective of the romantic moment they share, which is tender but with an underlying sadness. The two are excited to be with one another once again, yet know their trials have only just begun.

There is much more music to come – so stay tuned!

Dagger Kiss 2

Composing the music for Dagger Kiss season 1 has been one of my favorite projects to date. The music spanned everything from magic, to love, to action, and adventure. Some cues were sultry, some bombastic, some fast, some s l o w, and pretty much everything in-between. It had it’s challenges as well; it kept me on my toes, since I was constantly swerving from one side of the spectrum to the complete opposite, often in only a matter of days. But those challenges kept it interesting, and (in my opinion) produced some of the best melodies I’ve written to date. Possibly the best part for me was… it never got old! For those reasons, among many others, I was thrilled when Tucky Williams (creator of the series) asked if I would like to score the second installment of the Dagger Kiss chronicle. Naturally, I said yes!

Dagger Kiss continues to follow Arden (aka The Darkener) as she struggles to contain her magic abilities, and avoid unleashing them upon her loved ones and innocents. She will find herself in a variety of all sorts of new challenges in the up-coming epic. Judging by the script and Tucky’s excitement for the project, I can already tell it’s going to be spectacular, and I think a huge success!

Composing has already begun with the opening sequence, but there is still a lot of work to do in post-production. I can’t wait until I can share more about Dagger Kiss 2, but unfortunately I have to! All I can really say for now is… stay tuned!

Happy Birthday, Star Trek!

In honor of Star Trek’s 50th birthday, that also happens to be on Throwback Thursday, it only seemed appropriate to share something I composed a while back for Star Trek: Alien Domain. Ever since I was in elementary school, I remember watching The Next Generation on TV. The iconic title theme from the show, by Jerry Goldsmith, was common to hear coming from somewhere around the house in the evening, and it’s one of those themes you can’t really forget. Now, as an adult, I occasionally find myself watching reruns of the show, and every time I hear the theme I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia. Now that’s a theme! That’s what every tv/film/game composer strives for. So naturally, when it came to composing the music for Alien Domain, I had to pay tribute to one of the most recognizable themes of all time. You can catch it at the very end of this track.

Thank you to Mr. Goldsmith for creating the soundtrack to my youth, and happy 50th, Star Trek!

For Honor: Viking vs. Knight

Happy to announce that I am currently composing the score for the short film project entitled For Honor: Viking vs. Knight, from Forest Studios. For Honor is about the ultimate showdown between the two furious rivals of the Middle Ages. The Vikings have antagonized the Knights for far too long. A battle arises. Only one winner may leave alive.

The score is comprised of elements of action, adventure, and suspense, using a mixture of orchestral and medieval period instrumentation. This is reflected stylistically as well, as the film transitions between intense battles, daunting suspenseful moments, and everything in between.

This will be my first collaboration with Forest Studios, which is located in northern Kentucky. It’s always a treat to have the opportunity to work with local filmmakers, and this is certainly no exception. Look for more from Forest Studios in the near future!

For Honor: Viking vs. Knight is set to release before the end of September 2016.

Remnant 13

I’m thrilled to be a part of a new television series, Remnant 13, coming later this year! A couple weeks ago I was asked to create an opening theme for the show, which I will be sharing in the coming weeks. Thankfully, they liked the theme enough to hire me on as the composer for the whole season. I’m excited to see where it leads and look forward to working with this excellent cast and crew!

The Cure…

I’m happy to announce that I will be scoring the upcoming satirical short film, The Cure. The Cure is a fun, fast-paced look at a group of inept survivors in the Zombie Apocalypse. It has all the exciting elements of a zombie movie with a few hilarious twists mixed in as well.

the cure

This will be a fun and exciting project, and the music should reflect that as well. The music will include typical orchestration mixed with more modern elements of electronics and guitar, which draws from some of our favorite zombie movies such as Zombieland and Shaun Of The Dead, as well as other hilariously epic films like Hot Fuzz. Looking forward to putting the pen to paper on this one!

The Cure is currently in post-production, and is set to release later this summer. You can find out more about The Cure on the website… http://www.whatisthecure.tv/

Stay tuned for more!
